From the maker: It occurred to me that a way make a board easy to read by all people using it would be to make the board round, and to arrange the letters and numbers in concentric circles. This way everyone has an equal view. In addition to the standard talking board options of "yes", "no", "hello", and "goodbye" I added four more options to save time during sessions being "you know", "don't know", "wait" and "inappropriate question". I redesigned the planchette (indicator) to be round so that it always remains on the board, no matter what aspect of the message is being indicated. This planchette is round with a hole in the center through which the indicated letters, numbers or options is being viewed. This resembled the iris and pupil of the human eye, linking it to our own means of visual perception, and makes the indicator our "third eye."

Our talking board measures a generous 18" in diameter. It is constructed from 1/4" thick medium density fiberboard, which has three times the strength of particleboard. The board weighs 2 1/4 pounds and has a firm, substantive feel. It is coated with a durable melamine surface, and is screen-printed by hand with a high quality lacquer. The final step of construction is the application, by hand, of a hard wax that gives our board the smoothest operation of any board past or present. The final result is that the planchette glides effortlessly, as if floating on air.
